Hola familia!
yeah i didnt have all that much time at the airport, and all the working phones were taken, so when i got the chance to try and use one it didnt work, and i had to get on the plane :/
but yeah now i am living the life in R** idaho. it is a both bike and drive mission and so far we have pretty much all done biking so i have lost a little weight and am very happy. legs are still getting used to it though, i am very glad i used the bikes they have at the MTC.
so i am not sure how to summerize these last few days, they have been a little crazy.
the days leading up to leaving were interesting, most of my district left earlier than i did, so for one day of class it was just us and the teacher, was kind of boring, but i got ahead on my scripture reading scheduale so that was good. the morning of departure we got up at 3:30, reported at 5:00, flew at 8:40,(funny thing, we met an emeritus seventy at the airport), landed at 9:20, met president cannon, drove to the mission office, ate, met the trainers, and then went and prosylted! it was in english around the capitol building, it was a lot of fun. people were surprisingly nice, had some fun conversations, placed a few copies of the book of mormon, and got some references for the other missionaries. kinda of fun, but intemidating, while we were contacting we had a guest with us for most of the time, President Cannon. I was kind of scared to say much with him right there. however one of the times we were placing a book of mormon, he walked up while i was bearing my testimony of the liberating power of the gospel, because the guy was concerned that religion was to controlling. you would be surprised at the poeple that you would see at the capitol, and even the weird ones are surprisingly nice.
funny story, a guy from palmdale stake, J*** M***, is serving here and i had forgotten. so i ran into him in the office, that was fun. he was one of the directors for the Savior of the world play.
the next day after we arrived, we met our new trainers, i was esctatic to have elder m***, who is from m***, because he was the one who was tracting with me yesterday and i saw him at work. as i was walking through the office building, all of the office couples would tell me how awesome my new trainer was, it was pretty comforting. we then went to my area, about a two hour drive, and got on our bikes and visted some investigators. I think throughout my life, people have trained me to believe that we would be rejected by missionaries the vast majority of the time. but so far that hasnt been my expiriance. the majority of people we have talked to have been very receptive and nice, and only one guy of the 30-40 people we have contacted has been intentionally rude.
So my companion is a really cool guy, he is originally from m***, but moved to U*** a few years ago. he was a dancer there before his mission, and has been out about 13 months. he is a really good dancer, it is how he paid for his mission, by teaching classes and going to compitions. i have been learning so much spanish with him, because, well, he is fluent! :) and i have gotten to listen to so many people speaking spanish now, it is really awesome, native speakers are starting to make more sense now. about an hour ago i bore my testimony to a cool hispanic guy we met in a trailer park about la restaracion del evanhelio (the restaration of the gospel.) he wanted to hear more and we got a return appointment.
so president cannon said that we could send you all emails today to make sure you all know i am alive, so yeah hi! :)
hope everything at home is going splendid, i love you all!
Elder Keyes
